The Helsingør-Helsingborg Ferry
The Helsingør-Helsingborg ferry for foot passengers: Øresundslinjen's 20-minute crossing every 20 minutes, 2026 and 2027 fares in DKK, tickets, and the day tour that uses it (Oct 2026).
The ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg is the shortest way from Denmark to Sweden: Øresundslinjen’s crossing takes 20 minutes, with departures every 20 minutes from morning into the night, and a foot passenger pays DKK 56 for a single or DKK 112 for a same-day return at the standard fare in 2026. The terminal in Helsingør is beside the train station, a 10-minute walk from Kronborg. The 2-country day tour includes the crossing, from US$138 a person (checked October 2026), and its calendar is below.

Fares for foot passengers
Øresundslinjen lists these fares in Danish kroner (October 2026):
| Ticket | 2026 | 2027 (posted) |
|---|---|---|
| Adult single, low fare (app only) | DKK 45 | DKK 49 |
| Adult single, standard | DKK 56 | DKK 59 |
| Adult same-day return, standard | DKK 112 | DKK 118 |
| Child 7 to 15 or senior 65+, single | DKK 39 | DKK 39 |
| Child or senior, same-day return | DKK 78 | DKK 78 |
The low fare is sold only in the app; the standard fares are sold at the terminal and in the app. Children and seniors can travel from DKK 32 on the app’s low fare.
What has changed
Two older tips no longer hold. Øresundslinjen, part of Molslinjen, runs the route, so guides that name another operator are out of date. And since 1 January 2024 Skånetrafiken’s tickets are no longer valid on this ferry, which ended the Øresund round-trip ticket that used to cover trains and the crossing in one: buy the ferry on its own. Skånetrafiken’s Turistbiljett Öresund (SEK 599 for 48 hours, in the app) covers the trains on both sides of the Sound but not the ferry.
A loop on your own
The loop the tours drive also works by public transport: the coast train from Copenhagen to Helsingør, about 45 minutes, Kronborg, the ferry, a Swedish train south to Lund and on to Malmö, and the train back to Copenhagen. It takes three separate tickets and some timetable reading, and it gives you as long as you like at each stop. The 2-country tour does the same loop by coach in about nine hours, with an hour at Kronborg, seen from the ramparts, and the ferry, Lund and Malmö arranged; carry a passport either way.

On the Swedish side
Helsingborg’s landmark is Kärnan, the last surviving part of its medieval castle, whose first stone was laid around 1310. It is 35 metres to the roof terrace, 146 steps, and costs SEK 100 for an adult, free up to 18. In 2026 it opens to individual visitors on weekends from 5 October to 8 November, 11:00 to 15:00, and after that only to booked groups until spring 2027, when its new dates will be posted.

The operator, crossing time, frequency and fares are from oresundslinjen.dk (front page, timetable and prices); the end of ferry validity for Skånetrafiken tickets and the Turistbiljett Öresund from skanetrafiken.se; the walk from the station to Kronborg and the coast-train time from kronborg.dk; Kärnan’s height, steps, price and opening dates from karnan.se and Visit Helsingborg. The ferry line’s length is measured on the map. The tour’s price and inclusions are from the GetYourGuide listing, read in US dollars on 30 October 2026. All read in October 2026.
